Brooke & Brenna

I shot this lovely family at Gabbard park, in College Station. It's not a park I shoot at a lot (people can have trouble finding it) but I like the way it shoots. :)

Sweet sisters!

Brandy is a photographer too, (link here) so we made it a special point to include her in the pictures since she is always taking them for her family.

Brooke read a million words this school year so we made sure to get a shot of her doing her favorite activity.

Can I just say the ducks at Gabbard park are cray cray? It's like the pied piper of ducks, Brooke and Brenna are 5 and 8, and the ducks were almost too much for them, I think they would be overwhelming for smaller kids...

Brooke is such a beautiful girl, and she's looking so much older all of the sudden.

Jackson, Wesley & Marshall

I thought this mom did such a great job putting together outfits for her family! The goal is not to have everyone match (unless you're the type of family that matches in real life, then just keep doing what you're doing) but for everyone to be in complimentary tones, and in outfits that look good in the group shots and individual images. One way to do this it to pick a clothing piece (like Jackson's shirt) and pull colors from it for the rest of the family. In this example they went with shades of blue, and yellow with a pop of green.

Does this group look like a ton of fun or what?

I figure out how to fix transitional glasses with this shoot (I'm not going to lie, when a client gets out of the car with transitions on, my heart sinks a bit...you want to be able to see eyes in an image, particularly eyes as handsome as Jackson's) and I was pretty proud of how they turned out ;)

So. All the images with Jackson were edited to remove the glasses shading. I did this in Lightroom 4, you use the adjustment brush on both lenses to lighten them, then decrease the shadows, add warmth to counteract the cool tones, and slightly desaturate the selection...you may also have to change the noise/clarity level if you have noticeable grain. It wasn't as difficult as I expected, but it does take a bit of time.

At first Marshall wasn't sure if he was going to like getting his picture made, but I won him over with my cool toys ;)

Every time Marshall smelled the flowers (repeatedly) he made this face. LOVE it!

Evelyn, Maeve & Garrison

This family is moving out of the country in July. So when the mom and I began talking about what the shoot should look like we selected their house for the first part of the shoot, (so we could photograph the family routines and get images that matched the children's memories of the house) and then an outdoor location to get move formal portraits.

This shot is an outtake from me setting up the flash, but can I just say I love the "dad eyes" going down in the far right. That's a slice of real life right there!

Book reading

We also shot some board games and dancing, but in the interest of keeping this blog post brief...

I think these outfits are so super cute and a good example of how you do not have to have your children in solid outfits to get the outfits to work together. You just have to have the outfits come from the same color families (admittedly harder than it looks. These outfits all come from the Tea Collection, which is know for it's mix and match style and is currently having a 50% off sale...so all of you upcoming clients stressing about what to wear, check them out ).
